If you are a retiree and using the simplified method for your nontaxable retirment income, do not use this software. I paid for the premium and am unable to use it to file electronically, because the software automatically ties the 1099-R box 2a to your nontaxable retirement income on Form 1040 when you can legally use a different number on your 1040 than reported in box 2a by using the simplified method based on your cost participation in the retirement plan. I was told sorry that I would have to file a paper return. I used Taxslayer for 2020 and did not notice that it automatically modified the amount I hard entered into the 1099-R box 2a, so my return got red flagged and over a year later, I have not received my refund, because the 1099 form did not match the one IRS had on file, so my return is still "being processed".
I have used the simplified method for 8 years and am required by IRS rules to continue using it but their software was created using incorrect assumption parameters. I was trying to make things easier on IRS by filing electronically but can't do that with this software.

Anything on your return regarding income or age will "autoupgrade" your return for their 3rd rate software at $70 telling you AFTER you have entered a mountain of information. You never see your return and you have to reprepare the return. Rip off.

There were several mishaps with this return.
1) I was not guided to file form 8889 and recently became aware via the IRS (they contacted about the error on my 2020 tax return) that distributions from an HSA must be reported on form 8889 even if all distributions are qualified and non taxable.
2) After completing an amended return I was not able to efile it even though your FAQ's say it's possible and give instructions on how to do it on your website.
3) I was not able to print the amended return either and had to contact your support team, who sent me a zip file which finally printed, and will be sent via snail mail.

I called In this morning and within all of 10 mins max my problem was solved and I was left completely satisfied! Excellent customer service and accuracy!!

Absolute terrible program. Filed taxes the past two years with TaxSlayer. Both years said we would get back a little bit from Federal and BOTH years get a letter saying that we OWE OVER A GRAND!! I mean seriously... how can the program be that far off. Never again will I use or recommend this company.

Had a few issues troubleshooting my tax return, the first two customer service reps could't solve it but the third one did just fine and had great people skills! Happy to have used their service and will do so again.

I was happy with TaxSlayer until this year 2022 (2021 tax year). I owed IRS and State Tax. I payed with out of my bank account. Received an emails that State and IRS accepted my payments. State came out the very next day out of my bank account. Waited for IRS to clear, didn’t happen. Checked IRS website and all it said was it was still processing. Checked a few more times same thing. Now June 11th received a bill from the IRS for the amount I owed plus interest. I have payed my taxes through TaxSlayer every year that I owed without a problem. Not happy and now afraid to trust the site to make payments.

Takes a very long time for each screen to load
Does not allow for foreign tax carryovers
